Our core expertise is, and has always been, understanding and harnessing aviation data in performing R&D and complex analysis work. Mosaic spearheaded one of the earliest efforts to use data exchange between airlines and the FAA to support collaborative airport surface decision-making, culminating in several foundational elements of NASA’s Integrated Arrival, Departure, and Surface (IADS) traffic management system, deployed to Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex under the ATD-2 (Airspace Technology Demonstration 2) project, and the FAA’s Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM). Our Fuser technology processes and synthesizes inputs from disparate data sources from SWIM and airline data feeds to provide a consistent set of fused flight data. Not only is it integral to IADS, but the Fuser also drives several other applications, including the Mosaic Situation Viewer (see what it can do for you at airportviewer.com) and efforts by NASA and the FAA to provide a cloud-based infrastructure for aviation data exchange.

Our expertise goes far beyond the airport surface. Both independently and with our partners, we routinely identify and develop capabilities and services that add value to the aviation data available directly from SWIM. Our breakthrough analyses have advanced weather translation, traffic flow management, Trajectory Based Operations, and trajectory data synchronization. We have advanced methods and capabilities for airspace users to provide data to the FAA from their aircraft and from their ground systems. 

We are experts in these data exchange mechanisms because we helped build them. We have been at the forefront of developing standards for exchanging flight data (FIXM), aeronautical information (AIXM), weather information (WXXM), and maintenance and monitoring information (MMIXM). 

In addition to SWIM data published by the FAA, our data analysis expertise has helped NASA predict Terminal Area traffic conditions in real time, identify anomalies in airport and flight operations in real time, and develop a knowledge graph to foster the Advanced Air Mobility environment.
